Sustainable Education Initiative (SEI)

The world around us demands systems thinkers who comprehend how people, societies and economies must integrate with the natural systems that support all life on Earth. From an early age, children need to be exposed to nature and all it has to teach us. With an understanding of natural systems and a real, personal engagement with gardens, energy systems and the environment, children will be better able to acquire the knowledge, disciplines and skills they need to thrive in the world they will inherit. SEI is facilitating the collaborations between school systems, the colleges and universities, environmental educators, nonprofits, businesses and communities to bring a sustainability framework and systems thinking to the classroom.

SEI Strategies include:

  • Collaborate with universities, colleges, school systems, educators and communities to create a working sustainable education framework and curricula for use from pre-school through graduate school.
  • Build an effective professional development process for school administrators and teachers using existing programs and supported by businesses and community members.
  • Engage businesses, universities, colleges, school systems and educational specialists in creating high value workforce training that meets the changing needs of communities pursuing sustainable economic development.
