4th Annual (no strings attached) Sustainability in Education Awards
The Sustainable Economic Development Initiative (SEDI) is pleased to announce the fourth annual Sustainability in Education for the 21st Century Awards. Up to four prizes of $1,000 each will be awarded. The contest period is the 2012/2013 school year.
Grade categories are pre-K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12. All classroom teachers in Coconino County schools as well as those in schools in Winslow and the Verde Valley are eligible. Previous award winners can re-submit provided their application is based on new content. Teachers with curricula from ALL disciplines are encouraged to apply (e.g., history, English, math, sciences, economics, etc.). Purpose:
The purpose of these awards is to recognize development and implementation of innovative educational approaches that instill in students the importance, value and practicality of local environmental, social and economic aspects of sustainability.
Eligibility:
All classroom teachers in Coconino County, Winslow, and Verde Valley are eligible. Previous award winners can re-submit provided their application is based on new content.
Judging criteria:
The awards will be granted to teachers or groups of teachers for the development and implementation of lessons, units or projects that reflect and reinforce the three principles of sustainability: social equity, economic prosperity, and ecological health.
The lesson, unit or project must have a clear connection to the environmental, social and economic aspects of sustainability as reflected by the guiding principles of SEDI. The awards will be based on innovative approaches, actions taken, and outcomes that demonstrate practical application at the local level.
Important Dates:
Applications are due by midnight May 5, 2013.
The 2013 Application are available on the SEDI website at www.sedinaz.org/sei/teachers-award. Applications are due by midnight Sunday, May 5, 2013. Applications should be submitted electronically to Al White at awhite@sedinaz.org. Final classroom presentation to the winners will occur the week of May 13, 2013.
